Michael J. McCord
MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman
Michael J. McCord is one of the world’s leading experts in developing and managing microinsurance products. His decades of experience include working as controller of a U.S. commercial bank, chief executive officer of a microfinance institution in Uganda, and regional director for microfinance programs in Africa with FINCA International.
In 2000, Michael founded the MicroInsurance Centre (now the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman), an internationally recognized thought leader and implementer of microinsurance projects whose vision is to provide three billion low-income people with access to valuable risk management solutions.
Michael is a highly respected voice in the microinsurance field, having worked in over 75 countries in the areas of research, advocacy, and development of products and processes that meet the needs of low-income clients. He is a founding member of the Microinsurance Network, where he served as chair from 2015 – 2016, and a member of the Munich Re Foundation / Microinsurance Network’s steering committee for the International Conference on Inclusive Insurance. Michael is a current member of UNCDF’s Climate Insurance Linked Resilient Infrastructure Finance (CILRIF) Working Group, and a member of the Insurance Development Forum’s (IDF) Inclusive Insurance Working Group. The MIC@M is a member of the InsuResilience Global Partnership.
