Petronella Chigara-Dhitima is the Managing Director for Mustard Seed Advisory – a development finance advisory firm in financial inclusion. She has more than 28 years of experience in 21 African countries and 5 other developing countries in Asia and Latin America. She has recently been involved in a number of publications with one of the most recent one being the. “ DMAC Toolkit: Unleashing the power of data to transform your business | FSD Africa”.
Some of her current major clients include UNCDF, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), and International Labour Organization (ILO). She recently successfully completed the transformation of an Money Transfer Organization to a Deposit taking Microfinance Institution in The Gambia, and supporting the creation of a Women’s Fund in the same country. Prior to setting up Mustard Seed, Petronella was ACCION’s Africa Hub Manager and Project Manager, leading the technical assistance team for EB – ACCION and heading the Africa Training Centre based in Ghana. She has been instrumental in spearheading microfinance banks’ greenfield operations in West Africa, and setting up microfinance divisions in two different banks in Zimbabwe.
Petronella is a Master Trainer for ILO and ITCILO, she is certified SMART assessor, an accredited Risk expert with ADA Risk Management Graduation Model, a certified IDEO HCD expert and a senior faculty member of the Boulder Microfinance Training Program. Petronella has an MBA from the University of Liverpool and an Honors in Business Studies from University of Zimbabwe. She is a board member of Vision Fund (subsidiary of World Vision) and also for Premier Medical Aid Society’s (Zimbabwe) financial services entity.
