AgTechs have proliferated in emerging markets with technologies that increase yields and climate resilience for smallholder farmers. Although they have limited assets to raise finance on their own, they offer banks and microfinance institutions (MFIs) the opportunity to leverage digital platforms to expand credit into the rural sector.
Various models exist to link financial entities with AgTechs, enhancing their mutual capabilities. Through practical examples and case studies, this course will explore these models and the strategies needed to overcome the operational challenges identified in real-world experiences.
Finally, the course will address how to promote investments that improve productivity and the risk profile of clients. Lessons learned regarding financial product design, the identification of climate-resilient technologies, and how to bridge the knowledge gap between field needs and financial offerings will be analyzed.
